I confirm that this is indeed a scam. I have reported it to ACMA Scam Watch for further investigation.

It appears that this scam has resurfaced once again. I have deleted the contact and blocked the number for good measure.

This is a message on behalf of the police in your state or territory. The Social Research Centre will call you shortly to take part in an important study on safety and crime in your area. Reply '1' if you are 18+,'2' if you are under 18 or '3' to opt out.

Yeah nah... No thank you. Block and delete.

This number belongs to a legitimate survey company. However, their messages are poorly worded, which may make them appear to be a scam at first glance.

S

Reads like a scam message, and a fairly threatening one at that. Even it is really from the Social Research Centre (which used to be semi-legit, at least before it started ‘monetizing’ its activities) should do some basic market reaearch to learn how to write appropriate copy. Zero stars. Best to avoid, report, and block.

C

The Social Research Centre used to have some credibility, but this recent message was written in a way that felt threatening. It's possible this is a scammer using their name to deceive people. I recommend avoiding the call, reporting it, and blocking the number.

I received a message claiming to be from the police, which included the same wording as others I’ve seen. This is suspicious!

I only received an SMS from this number. My phone number is unlisted, so I will block and delete it. I never respond to numbers unless I know the caller.

I received a text message from a number claiming to be the Social Research Centre, which seems legitimate. I checked their website and verified that the phone number matches, and I also remember them contacting me several years ago.

This is a scam! I received a text similar to those reported by others, claiming it was from the police and saying that I would be contacted by a social research centre. The message asked me to reply with either 1, 2, or 3. Do not respond and block the number.

Likely a scam. Received text message:

This is a message on behalf of the police in your state or territory. The Social Research Centre will call you in the coming days to see if you can take part in an important study on safety and crime in your area. Reply '1' if you are 18+, '2' if you are under 18 or '3' to opt out.

I received an unsolicited text message that I chose not to respond to, so I blocked and deleted it. A few days later, I received a voicemail from the number (03) 9492 6301. In the voicemail, a woman introduced herself with the same name as mine, claiming they were conducting a survey and would call back. While it seemed somewhat legitimate, I find it alarming that they used my name. As I am on the Do Not Call register, it is concerning if this is actually a legitimate call.

I received a message claiming to be from the Cancer Institute NSW, which is part of the NSW Government. The message indicated that the Social Research Centre would be calling me soon to ask if I could participate in an important health study. It instructed to reply '1' if I live in NSW or ACT, '2' if I do not, and '3' to opt out. I suspect this is a scam.

I received a text message stating it was from the Cancer Institute NSW, indicating that I would be contacted by the Social Research Centre for a health study. However, the message felt suspicious. They asked me to reply with different options based on my location, which makes me believe it might be a scam.
