Analysis of User Reports

One notable review from 10 May 2018 highlights the bizarre nature of calls coming from 0420 055 235 / 0420055235. The caller, who spoke with an Indian accent, attempted to lure the recipient with a promise to participate in a royal commission, allegedly investigating major banks for poor service. Such evasiveness is a common trait among telemarketing scams that prey on the unsuspecting.

Understanding the Scam

The nature of this scam seems to be a variation of what is often referred to as "information gathering scams." The core tactic involves convincing the victim that they must provide personal information in order to assist with an important commission. This typifies a common scam strategy: when perpetrators create a sense of urgency or importance, it pressures victims into compliance without adequate scrutiny of the claims being made.

So, I get a call from 0420 055 235.

Indian accent... Calling me by my old name and telling me she isn't selling anything, but I should listen.

Makes the mistake of talking over me, gets a verbal slap up the side of the head.

Apparently there is a royal commission (oooo!) happening with the major banks at the moment, investigating their bad service and the lies they tell customers (oooo!).

AND! I can help by working from home and helping the 'royal commission people' gather information (oooo!).

So, just I can make sure that I qualify, I ask her a few questions;.

Q - Who is in charge of this royal commission?

A - The government.

Q - Which department is handling it?

A - The royal commission department.

Q - So what exactly did the banks do wrong?

A - They lied and other things.

Q - Who is heading the investigation, which minister?

A - The Parliament House.

Q - But what is the name of the minister himself?

LOL.
