Tried the same Gumtree scam attempt as everyone else.
Exactly the same, Whatsapp scammer via Gumtree ad. The link prompts you for credit card details to 'pay' you for the item, and then goes to a screen asking you to input your online banking ID and password. Fortunately I did not do this but I reported to Scamwatch.
Got one today, in response to (what I believe) my Gumtree ad. The person contacted asking about the condition of the item for sale, then was very quick to decision making and ready to buy. The catch is this person lives afar away and would organise AusPost door-to-door (hhmm.. didn't know they have this service). This person has promised to make a payment through AusPost, and will need me to go to the (fake) website to provide my address and collect money, and a courier will show up at my front door.
Nah... I'm good. I'd rather do a face-to-face transaction mate. Too good to be true.
Same thing happened to me. Was curious when no postcode was mentioned and when googling the address given it came up no such address.
0402 924 096 number contacted me via WhatsApp in response to a Gumtree ad, as well.
Thanks for your post.
This number contacted me via WhatsApp in response to a Gumtree ad (where my mobile number was listed). Scammer pretended to purchase an item from me, was very friendly sending personalised messages. They then sent a fake Australia Post weblink to arrange the 'courier'. The link was clearly fake ending in.site. I did not click on the link. The real Australia Post website warns against such scams. Do not engage in a transaction with this number.
