The phone number 03 9192 4981 has been reported as a spam number associated with automated scam calls about fake eBay transactions and bank account issues. Discover how to protect yourself from these deceptive calls.

Identifying the Threat: 03 9192 4981

The phone number 03 9192 4981 / 0391924981 has emerged as a troubling source of automated scam calls, leaving many Australians questioning the legitimacy of such outreach. Based on numerous reports, this number typically engages users through robotic conversations, feigning urgency related to unwarranted eBay transactions or supposing fraudulent dealings with banks.

Nature of the Scam

Reports indicate a common pattern: victims receive unsolicited calls claiming dire issues concerning their bank accounts or online shopping transactions. One alarming report detailed a message asserting that two unauthorised eBay transactions had occurred, urging the recipient to press a number to resolve the matter. However, these assertions are entirely fabricated, as no actual transactions have taken place.

Why This is a Scam

  • Unrequested Calls: Legitimate companies do not typically initiate contact in this manner; any correspondence regarding your accounts or purchases will generally come through official means or secure channels.
  • Generic Language: The automated messages are filled with vague details, lacking any specific information relevant to the recipient, invoking a sense of urgency to provoke hasty reactions.
  • No Valid Return Call: Those who attempted to return the call find the number is disconnected, substantiating claims that this is not a reputable contact.
  • Data Exploitation: Scammers may have access to personal data or conduct trials to fish for further information under the guise of helping the caller.

What To Do If You Receive a Call

If you receive a call from this number:

  • Do Not Engage: Hang up immediately. Engaging with scammers can lead to more calls and potential data breaches.
  • Do Not Share Personal Information: Legitimate companies will never ask for sensitive data over the phone.
  • Report the Number: Use services like Reverseau or similar platforms for reverse phone lookup in Australia to confirm its reputation and report accordingly.
  • Stay Informed: Keep abreast of known scam numbers in Australia to better protect yourself in the future.

Rang just a moment ago to inform me that my Commonwealth Bank account is being hacked. Money has been sent to a John Smith in America. I didn't give them chance to say much else - I do not have a CBA account!

Scam

Scam call from a company purporting to be a "Security company for Visa and Master" - didn't even bother saying Mastercard, just "Master". Asked about "two fraudulent transactions" that occurred at 4.30 am this morning and then wanted to know who my bank was so he could direct me to a bank. When I indicated I don't have a visa or mastercard and knew he was lying, he denied lying and said, "How did I get your details then? Is this your last name? The card ends in (1234)". Digits were from a card that was was closed off more than 18 months ago, so clearly a company buying details off leaked or hacked data.

I received a scam call that left a robotic voice message regarding supposed eBay and Visa transactions, which appeared to be complete nonsense.

Scam

I answered an automated call with a confusing message about two supposed transactions from eBay—one for $300 and another for over $1300. It was clearly a scam, as I do not use eBay and do not have a VISA card, making the call even more absurd.

About This Report

This page is part of the Reverseau Scam Intelligence Database, a community-driven dataset maintained by Reverseau since 2014. The database documents caller behaviour across Australian phone numbers based on first-hand user experiences.

Each entry is generated when individuals who received calls or messages from a number submit a report through our review form. Reports include a caller safety rating (1–5 scale) and a written account of the interaction. All submissions are moderated before publication.

The safety rating shown on this page reflects the collective assessment of (03) 9192 4981 by real users. It measures perceived caller risk, not the quality of this page. A low rating indicates that reporters consider this number likely to be associated with scam or spam activity.
