The phone number 02 9171 4773 has been reported as a suspicious telemarketer seemingly connected to Google Ads. If you receive calls from this number, it's wise to exercise caution. Readers can find tips on how to handle these calls effectively.

Understanding the Phone Number 02 9171 4773

The phone number 02 9171 4773 / 0291714773 has raised numerous red flags among users, leading it to be classified primarily as a suspicious telemarketer. Many callers have claimed the number is associated with Google Ads, arousing both curiosity and caution among recipients. Its classification stems from an array of user reviews that depict a troubling pattern of behaviour, leaving many wondering just who is behind the line.

Telemarketing Allegations

A significant number of reports indicate that the callers from this number often present themselves as representatives from Google Ads. While some users affirm that their conversations were with genuine Google support, a considerable portion encountered elements that raised suspicions. Key indicators of these problematic calls include:

  • Persistent daily calling pattern
  • Requests for sensitive information
  • Claims of account issues that prompt urgency
  • Unprofessional or scripted dialogues lacking transparency

Scam or Legit?

The mixed nature of reports about 02 9171 4773 / 0291714773 complicates its classification. While some users, like one from February 2025, confirmed the legitimacy of their call as a Google Ads Account Manager—addressing them by name and providing services on their legitimate accounts—others experienced situations that clearly signalled fraud. Instances of callers falsely asserting issues with ads or requesting credit card details were reported consistently, adding to the pervasive anxiety around this number.

How to Handle Calls from 02 9171 4773

If you receive a call from this number, here are some prudent actions to consider:

  • Do not share personal information: Always protect your details, especially if the caller seems overly aggressive or if they initiate the contact.
  • Verify before engaging: If they claim to represent a company, hang up and contact that company directly through their official channels.
  • Utilise Reverse AU: Consider using a Reverse Phone Lookup Australia tool. This service can help identify unknown numbers and offer additional insights into reported scams.
  • Report suspicious activity: If you suspect it's a scam, report it to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) or your local authorities.

In summary, while there may be genuine connections to Google Ads tied to this number, the prevailing sentiment from users is one of caution. The clear mixed signals suggest that if you encounter calls from 02 9171 4773 / 0291714773, it's best to be vigilant and approach the situation with discernment, ensuring that you do not fall prey to potential scams.

The caller claimed to be from Google and insisted on asking me security questions. This seems suspicious since they called me first, making it likely a scam attempt.

Scammer pretending to be from Google Ads. Told me my Google Ads were "paused" when they were not. Chasing credit card details for a scam. Block it.

This isn't a legitimate call; it was a scam. They claimed that my Google Ads account was "paused" when it wasn't, and they were persistently trying to obtain my credit card details.

This caller was a legitimate Google Ads Account Manager. They left a message, addressed me by my account name, and called a number that is not typically listed for Google Ads, which confirms their legitimacy.

I received a call from someone who claimed to be from Google Maps, asking to verify our new phone number for their listing. When I pressured him for more information and asked to speak to a manager, he abruptly hung up. This is definitely a fake call— I recommend avoiding and blocking this number.

I was contacted by a person claiming to be from Google Ads who wanted to discuss our sales campaign at work. They said it would take 30-45 minutes for a "survey". I requested that they send us an email instead.

This number called my business line, and almost immediately followed up with a call to my personal mobile. Shortly after, I received an SMS claiming to be from Google Maps. It's worth noting that Google Maps typically does not initiate phone calls to request information verification, making this situation highly suspect.

I received two calls from this number while I was in my vehicle. The caller's speech was hard to understand, but they seemed to inquire about my 'business.' They also mentioned that the call was being recorded for training and coaching purposes, which added to my discomfort.

I missed two calls from this number within 30 minutes. When I called back, I got an automated message that falsely identified itself as "Google Maps." This is likely a scam attempt.

Google Ads trying to con people into spending more on ads. Slow clap.

It's actually Google Ads, not a spammer lol, however they're still pretty useless, and their only interest is to get you to spend more money on ads without any tangible results.

Common advice includes switching to broad match keywords, changing campaign strategy to maximise conversions and other tactics that will just waste money on most campaigns unless you have exceptionally good tracking in Google Analytics, which most small businesses don't.

So do yourself a favour and ignore their calls and just work with a Google Ads consultant who will actually help you get more sales/leads while spending less on your ads:-)

Sounds like a telemarketer talking to me as if I already know them... Gave a name, not where he was from and continued to babble on. I don't know whether these ones or the AI scam donation calls lately are more annoying.

During the call, the person spoke to me as if I were an acquaintance, using a name but not stating where they were from. They rambled on about something, and I couldn't determine if it was a telemarketer or one of the recent annoying AI scam calls asking for donations.
