Understanding 02 8503 9897

The phone number 02 8503 9897 / 0285039897 has garnered attention in Australia, with users categorising it as both suspect and potentially legitimate. As we delve into the experiences shared by individuals reporting calls from this number, it becomes clear that it's a line that's dangerously blurred between authentic communication and fraudulent calls.

Scam or Legit? The Mixed Reports

From user feedback, it's evident that 02 8503 9897 / 0285039897 has been associated with a range of interactions, fuelling confusion over its legitimacy. Some users asserted that calls they received were related to services from legitimate agencies like TAFE NSW and Service NSW. For instance, users confirmed communication about course applications and disputes with official services, marking the number as legitimate in certain instances.

However, not all reports are favourable. Some recipients have encountered scam scenarios where callers posed as representatives from government agencies, offering fake refunds or assistance with travel claims while requesting sensitive information like VISA details. The complexity of these calls, characterised by the use of specific details about trips, has understandably raised suspicions amongst recipients.

Why the Confusion?

The dual nature of the reports reflects a broader issue with telephone communications predominantly using Voice over IP (VoIP) services. This technology allows various numbers to be housed under one calling structure, perpetuating both spam and legitimate business calls. Users noted high volumes of unsolicited calls alongside genuine notifications, leading to a good deal of unease anytime the number appears on caller ID.

Tips for Handling Calls from 02 8503 9897

  • Be Cautious: If you receive a call from this number, take a moment to verify the caller's identity before providing any personal information. Beware of unsolicited requests for sensitive data.
  • Call Back Using Official Channels: If you think the call may be legitimate, hang up and contact the agency directly using official phone numbers found on their websites.
  • Use Reverseau: To check details about the number and past user reports—considering it could help clarify potential risks associated with the caller.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: If you feel a call from this number is potentially fraudulent, report it to the relevant authority to aid in tracking scams across Australia.

While this phone number may indeed belong to legitimate agencies under certain contexts, many Australians operate with caution, especially given the growing prevalence of scams that leverage genuine voices. If you need assistance or want to confirm who called you, conducting a Reverse Phone Lookup Australia can provide more insights and safety moving forward.

Stay vigilant, trust your instincts, and always double-check before engaging with unexpected callers!

Got a call from Revenue NSW! Keep in mind you can’t ring them back since it's a private line. But definitely a legit call!

A lady called my work claiming she was from our head office section asking for private information on our staff. We weren’t going to give out anything and it’s not our method of administration either. Her name was Maria and the number used 02 85039897. Her reasons were dodgy and suspicious and she was acting on behalf of another person we have had issues with that is targeting, slandering and harassing staff.

I received a call from this number. When I answered, there was no one on the line, so I hung up. I tried to call them back from a withheld number, but it turns out the number is out of service. This is likely a SCAM.

Call from Revenue NSW payroll tax. Left a message saying did not receive payroll tax for the month of July 2023. Please pay in the next 3 days otherwise we'll send you an estimate with a 25% penalty and left a 1300 number to call back. I was sure we didn't have any dues with the revenue department so cross checked the number in multiple ways and decided it was a scam.

This number is definitely spam. I believe those claiming it to be legitimate are likely spammers themselves. This number constantly calls me, and none of the agencies they mention are related to my affairs.

I was contacted by someone claiming to be from a government agency offering a 'refund' due to my travel during the free travel period in November 2022. They had specific details about my XPT trip and asked for my VISA card information to process a refund for my first-class upgrade. The caller provided a callback number, 132 212, which did not match any official Transport NSW contact information, raising red flags.
