Beware of calls from 02 8439 5384. This number has been reported as a scam impersonating Centrelink. Learn about the scam and how to respond to such calls effectively.

In recent years, phone scams have seen an alarming increase, with scammers continually finding new ways to perpetrate fraudulent schemes. One such number that has caught the attention of users is 02 8439 5384. Reports indicate that this number is being used by scammers impersonating Centrelink, the Australian Government department responsible for social security payments.

According to a user report dated 6 June 2017, the caller employed a recorded message, claiming to be from Centrelink. The message spoke of changes to the user's payments and mentioned that the user had not responded to imaginary letters. It included a reference number and a follow-up number to return the call, which was identified as 0283787970—a number that has also garnered reports of being fraudulent.

This pattern is typical of imposter scams, where fraudsters aim to create a sense of urgency or fear in the recipient, leading them to divulge personal information or make payments unnecessarily. Users are advised to remain vigilant and sceptical when receiving calls that do not appear official or seem suspicious.

If you receive a call from 02 8439 5384 or any number claiming to be Centrelink and requesting personal information or prompting action regarding supposed unpaid debts, do not engage. Instead, hang up and directly contact Centrelink using the official contact details available on their website. This strategy ensures that you are communicating with legitimate representatives.

While scams can be distressing, learning to identify and manage them effectively is critical. Emphasising the importance of conducting a Reverse Phone Lookup Australia can help recipients verify unknown or suspicious numbers before taking any action. By using heritage sites like Reverseau, Australians can protect themselves from falling victim to these fraudulent calls and maintain their peace of mind.

About This Report

This page is part of the Reverseau Scam Intelligence Database, a community-driven dataset maintained by Reverseau since 2014. The database documents caller behaviour across Australian phone numbers based on first-hand user experiences.

Each entry is generated when individuals who received calls or messages from a number submit a report through our review form. Reports include a caller safety rating (1–5 scale) and a written account of the interaction. All submissions are moderated before publication.

The safety rating shown on this page reflects the collective assessment of (02) 8439 5384 by real users. It measures perceived caller risk, not the quality of this page. A low rating indicates that reporters consider this number likely to be associated with scam or spam activity.
