Though I did not personally answer the call, they left a voicemail indicating that they were from Smile Direct Club and asking me to call them back. The message was automatic. I only inquired about Smile Direct Club over six months ago, so I'm not sure why I am receiving calls from them now.
Go a phone message on answering machine said it was Nicki Johnson.. Claimed to be ATO, computer generated voice on voicemail. woman voice.
Wants "Attorney of record" to call back - trying to copy American used language.
I rang the police as they said to do on the news. They didn't care and said its been happening for years.

Second time I have had this call in last 2 months. Not happy! Same call saying that warrant will be issued re Tax Fraud and that by phoning the number they can stop it.
Spam debt collector.
Got the same call almost every day for the past week. Often get 3 calls per day. I'm getting sick of it. I know the ATO does not contact people in this rude way. No name is given so how do the pranksters think they are talking to? What if a 6 year old picked up the call? This is obviously a scam.
I have received these calls as well I called up AFP and it is a HOAX it is registered as a NSW number but is transferred to overseas callers and is unidentified so don't worry about this and just leave it. The taxation office sends out letters in the mail and if it is a sheriffs office a name and a number is left and it is not a hot line number.
Same deal here. Answering machine message left by man with accent something about tax anomalies, returned registered letters and a threat to issue a warrant for my arrest. Have also had 2 phone calls in recent weeks from telstra - hung up on them because I am not a telstra customer. Same type of voice.
I received yesterday asking if I had a lawyer as I be needing one. I said put it in the mail. So determined I decided to check my message bank I have six messages from the same guy with same message within three days. Something has to be done.
Had this message left twice yesterday and also last week. Have variations on a theme over the last few months. First it was an American accent recommending I contact my attorney. The second lot was from someone with the name o'gorman. Would love to get the call directly so I could have some fun as I am very familiar with the tax law and dealing with the ATO. The ATO would never contact you by phone, they would always send a letter. They also do not issue arrest warrants and taking you to court is a last resort and only if there is a large sum of money involved.
THESE PEOPLE HAVE LEFT 3 MESSAGES IN 24 HOURS (VERY DETERMINED)SOUNDS LIKE A HOAX - I HAVE SINCE DELETED THEM.
Got the threatening call about tax anomalies and arrest and forceful recover from this number. Surely this is a federal communications offence.
I have received two phone calls from this number threatening possible warrant for arrest and tax issues during this week. I believe it to be a scam and received the messages on message bank so have not spoken to male person on line.
Scammers without a doubt. I was told an officer may soon appear at my door to arrest me. Had two of these calls in the last few weeks. The voice is a male - with a strong Indian accent.
A message was left on my home answering machine to the effect that I am about to be arrested for "anomalies in my tax return", and that I am to call this number. This is the second message of its kind I have received in the last month or so. It is a scam, and I believe if you call they will ask for your credit card details and take your money. The ATO knows about it, but they couldn't care less about doing anything to nab them. I wonder whether they would act if an MP or some bureaucrat received the same call? Then again, they may be based offshore, and the number could be a Skype or similar number (they speak with a foreign accent).
