I gotta message too on my Land line, said he is Kenneth Matthew from ATO, bla bla bla, good try idiot, ATO officers are not that aggressive, this guy sounds damn aggressive, asking me to call him immediately or else I will be blacklisted, I Always paid my tax on time etc... But I guess some innocent people may fall victim to this Scam...Beware...

Had a message left on my answering machine from a Kenneth Matthews from the ATO legal department and that l should get my legal representative or myself to ring him back on 0260642023. Googled this number and found other people have had the same man, with the same number, ring them also. Guessing it's a scam.

Same message as others.

Same description of call as above re Kenneth Matthews and ATO.

Message left on land line 25 August 2016 10.57am. Very much like all the other reports PH number was 0283373182. Particularly nasty bullying and commanding tone on the message - said there was legal case against my name for Tax evasion or Tax Fraud. Said he was from ATO Returns and Public Prosecutions (although this was incorrectly pronounced). He said he was OFFICER Kenneth Matthews and DO NOT IGNORE THIS CALL said that I (or Legal representative)was to call back as it is of a ?(unclear but might have been sensitive) nature.

Rattled by this at first, then listened over a few times realised it was a hoax and found several comments about this number.

Call from Kenneth Matthews.11.58am left message on answerphone, call back number was 02 8317 3182.

Same as above comments but number was 0283173182.

Just got a call from Kenneth Matthews. I heard the phone message say he was from the ATO, Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecution (CDPP). He said I was in trouble for tax evasion and tax avoidance. He didn't get any further with me. I was home and just cut off the call. Obviously a scam but it is still upsetting, initially.

The Ken Matthews scam phone number was 03 4100 0112.

My neighbor who is 80 just came over worried about a phone call from Ken Matthews from the ATO. I told him to disregard it and told him if any of these institutions need to contact you they will write. Then you can double check by paying them a visit personally.

Easy way to not get stitched up by these rogues.

03 4100 0112 Kenneth Mathews left a rather aggressive message. Worth noting though that this phone number called me several times this am. When I answered the call, I got silence then GOODBYE. Wasn't until I was out that my answering machine picked up and the scum left his message.

Just got same message from Kenneth Matthews. Claimed to be from CDPP - Commonwealth Department of Public AND Prosecutions. Apparently I also have a legal case being prosecuted by the ATO - call back number was 02 8599 6100.

I just had a message from Kenneth Matthews on my answering machine today claiming legal case against my name by ATO for tax evasion and avoidance. The number I should call is 02 85996100.

Kenneth Matthews gets around he also works for the IRS and the ATO. Lol. Just got a call from a recorded message asking me to ring a 02 number pffft no going to happen. It's a scam!!!

We got a call today from same Kenneth Matthews, left a message while we were out stating he was from Australian Tax Office etc. The number given was 02 66984021.02 66 is our area code, coincidence? We didn't call back but my partner found it rather upsetting and worrying.

Just received the same call. Identical, but directing me to call: 0266984021.

I got one today - more a woman's electronic voice - from the ATO about legal action in the Federal Court and if I didn't call I could go to gaol. Thanks everyone - now I know not to call :).

I also had Kenneth Matthews leave me the same message, but the number I was advised to call back was 83173267 - and just like the rest, the number doesn't connect.

I got a call from this Kenneth Matthews guy quoting phone number 08 8310 6708 .

I am a tax agent and the ATO would never advise taxpayers of legal proceedings in this way. You would be told in writing with initial warnings and or your tax agent would also be contacted by portal email and or in writing too.

Since it doesn't let me call Kenneth Mathews back it's hard to see how this scam works. But I am going to ignore it. Maybe its just designed to cause concern and upset rather than financial gain or loss.

We've had 3 calls in the past two days. The last one I answered, same Kenneth Mathews reported in previous comments, same message and same accent.

Yes, another of these calls, twice, over the weekend when I was away. Phone number to call was 02 6100 3910.

I got the same call on a friday, but didn't find it on the machine until the sunday, number just disconected itself every time I rang it.

Here is the exact text of our call yesterday.21 JUly 2015:

"Hi, This is Kenneth Matthews calling you from ATO Australia Taxation Office headquarter in Canberra.

We have received a legal petition filed against your name regarding tax evasion and tax fraud and we want you or your retained attorney of record to return the call. Our hotline number is 02 6152 8615. I repeat 02 61528615.

Again, this is Kenneth Matthews calling you from ATO. We want you to return the call at your utmost attention. Thank You. Goodbye.".

I received a message from Kenneth Mathews today requesting that I immediately call him on 0261528691 with reference to a lawsuit filed by the ATO against me for tax evasion and fraud.

Hi - my home and office number is the same. I have a display on the phone that details the incoming number - and if private I choose to accept or not depending on my mood.

This private number caller phoned this morning (Wednesday 10 June 2015) and I chose to ignore it. The message left was from this person who called himself 'Officer Kenneth Matthews from the office of (Atea? - did not hear that bit properly) of the Australian Taxation Office and the reason for this call is that you have been identified.....'.

I could not write any more as that is when the squelching noise started and no further part of the message was heard.

I did a quick Google as I don't like to be offside with the ATO unnecessarily and then saw all these previous comments about a potential scam. Thought I would just add my comments as well.

I found a message on my answering machine from the same man with the exact same message but with a different phone number 02 6140 3438. His voice is a mixture of robot and Irish/American.

I had a message left on my answering machine today from Kenneth Matthews from the ATO advising that I am being investigated for tax evasion and fraud. The return number left by Kenneth was 02 6152 8654. ATO have been contacted and are keen to receive as much info as possible. I think Kenneth is currently being investigated. I have recorded his message and plan to send it to the ATO to help with their investigations.

I got the same phone message today. The number left though was (02) 6152 8644. I have reported it to the ATO they are investigating, I urge everyone to report the same and not to erase the message that is what the ATO has requested.

"Kenneth Matthews" called from the Australian TaxationS (sic) Office. Sounded pre-recorded. Accent was unusual. Can anybody catch these scammers?

Two of our telephones had a message left by this fellow quoting this phone number. I have reported the attempted scan to SCAMWatch, ACCC and the ATO. I suggest everyone do the same.

We Just received the same message, knew it was a scam because Australia does not use the word Attorney. Funny accent.

Got phone message (using computerised voice) claiming to be Kenneth Matthews from Australian Taxation Office phoning on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions about Tax Evasion and Wilful Fraud! (You would think that the DPP could make its own phone calls!). Was asked to return the call on 02 8310 5351. Not sure how this scam is intended to work. Perhaps when you call, they get you to deposit money into a specified bank account to refund any monies they say are owing to the ATO? Has anyone phoned the number?

Kenneth left a message with us tonight re Tax evasion. Asked our attorney to call. Obviously a fraud as we have an accountant and any tax issues would have come to us from him.

Received message today to call Kenneth Mathews from ATO, message was very distorted, kept cutting in and out. I use Lawyer not an attorney Kenneth. Just erased the message.

I had 2 calls from 02 8310 5352 - an automated message stating it is the ATO & legal proceeding will commence within 24 hrs & all asserts will be seized. They would send a debt collection officer to complete proceedings. Will be reporting this to ATO & police tomorrow.

Just received and a word of advice now satisfied that it is nothing but scare mongering from Indian/Pakistani foreign or in fact citizens of Australia working under the guise of ATO or Commonwealth DPP for their own gotten gains with that national common accent they cannot get rid of and use English names to their name. Just a ruse.

Feel sorry for others who cannot sleep until they can get some responsible to assist them and alleviate unnecessary fears accordingly.

Apparently this number belongs to Kenneth Matthews from the Australian Taxation Offices. He leaves a prerecorded message asking for you to call him back!! Hahah.
