Why Is This A Scam?
This particular scam is incredibly deceptive as it leverages the credibility of the ATO, a government agency typically respected by Australian citizens. Here’s how the scam typically unfolds:
- Automated Calls: As soon as the call is answered, recipients hear an automated message regarding a warrant for their arrest.
- Press '1' for More Information: Callers are urged to press '1' to be connected with an operator, which can lead to a conversation filled with attempts to extract personal data.
- Fake Identity Verification: Once connected, the operators often request personal information under the guise of identifying the victim's tax situation.

What Our Users Reviewed
Yesterday, I received a call from this number claiming to be the Australian Taxation Department. Initially there was an automated message stating, That it was the ATO and that a warrant for my arrest had been issued and if I wanted to find out why press 1.
I did press 1. When a woman with a very thick Indian accent answered the connecting call, asking how can she help me, I snapped at her and said you tell me, you called me telling me there's a warrant out for my arrest so you can tell me what the f*k for.
She asked me to identify myself in order to pull out my file. When she kept asking me the same questions repeatedly I snapped at her again and she hung up.
I contacted Policelink because I couldn't understand why I was apparently being arrested. The lady I spoke to informed me there was no arrest warrant out for and it was a scam and the police have in fact aware. If anyone receives any call from this number do not answer or if you do.... DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR DETAILS!
Hi are your sending for voice massages and call today 0406125488 I do no what a problem please talking me.
Scam call. Blocked it already.
ATO scam, don’t press 1.
Tried to call back just got tones..
Robot voice claiming to be the ATO. Clearly a scam.
Yes they rung me from the ATO saying I had a warrant out for my arrest I said I was going to contact the police and then they hung up!
SCAM - "There is a lawsuit being filed under your name and if you don't call back immediately we will put a warrant out for your arrest" - Just missed a call from this number and this was left on a voicemail...
Automated recording as soon as you pick up claiming to be from the ATO. Number doesn't match anything listed on the ATO website.
This number is the ATO scam saying there is a warrant for your arrest. Don’t answer and report it.
Don’t even bother answering this call as it is the ATO scam about having a warrant out for your arrest and wants you to press ‘1’ to speak to ‘an officer’ so you can pay your debt (probably in gift cards). The call is an automated voice.
