Understanding 02 8000 7665: A Scam Warning

The phone number 02 8000 7665 / 0280007665 has been flagged by users as a phishing scam posing as the National Australia Bank (NAB). Reports have surfaced indicating that individuals received SMS messages claiming suspicious transactions on their accounts, urging them to call the provided number to resolve the issue. However, it’s important to note that these messages are fraudulent, especially for individuals who do not have any accounts with NAB.

The Nature of the Scam

This particular scam employs a tactic known as "phishing," where fraudsters deceive individuals into providing personal information or financial details under the guise of a legitimate institution. In this instance, the scam text cited an alarming situation regarding a supposed transaction of $2,500 for eBay, compelling recipients to act quickly and out of fear.

Identifying Phishing Attempts

Phishing scams can often be identified by looking for several tell-tale signs:

  • Unsolicited messages from companies you don’t have an account with.
  • Urgency in language, urging the receiver to act fast without reflecting.
  • Grammatical errors and strange wording often found in communication from these numbers.

Scam

I received an sms on my phone with the heading caller ID of NAB saying, "We have stopped a suspicious transaction of $2.500 heading for eBay from your account. Please call us immediately on +61280007665 Mon - Sun 9 am - 9 pm". The big problem here is I don't have any accounts with the NAB, so yes I would say this number is a scam..

About This Report

This page is part of the Reverseau Scam Intelligence Database, a community-driven dataset maintained by Reverseau since 2014. The database documents caller behaviour across Australian phone numbers based on first-hand user experiences.

Each entry is generated when individuals who received calls or messages from a number submit a report through our review form. Reports include a caller safety rating (1–5 scale) and a written account of the interaction. All submissions are moderated before publication.

The safety rating shown on this page reflects the collective assessment of (02) 8000 7665 by real users. It measures perceived caller risk, not the quality of this page. A low rating indicates that reporters consider this number likely to be associated with scam or spam activity.
