The phone number 02 7239 5316 / 0272395316 has been reported multiple times by users as a scam caller impersonating representatives from Telstra and the National Broadband Network (NBN). Such tactics are classic signs of a phishing attempt.

Classification: Scam (Impersonating Telstra)

Users have consistently identified these calls as suspicious, leading to the classification of 02 7239 5316 / 0272395316 as a scam. The rationale behind this classification is based on several factors:

  • Impersonation Tactics: The callers claiming to be from Telstra are reaching out to individuals who do not even have an account with the service provider. Several reviews indicate the absence of any established customer relationship with either Telstra or NBN.
  • Threatening Language: The scammers employ alarmist rhetoric regarding supposed security breaches, aiming to instigate panic among recipients to gain personal details.
  • Unsolicited Calls: Users have reported these calls as unsolicited and disturbing, underlining the fact that legitimate companies do not normally make unsolicited calls in this manner.

How to Handle Calls from 02 7239 5316

If you receive a call from 02 7239 5316:

  • Do not engage: If you suspect a call is from a scammer, it’s best to hang up immediately.

It's supposedly from Telstra, but I don't even have an account with them. Definitely dodgy!

Scam caller. I answered the call and the caller claimed to be from Telstra, but we're not with Telstra. He told me there'd been issues with my internet lately and when I told him I hadn't been experiencing any issues he hung up.

Claims to be Telstra, telling me my phone internet has been compromised.

I received a call where the representative claimed to be from Telstra, stating that my IP address had changed from private to public and was therefore insecure. When I pointed out that Telstra is not my provider, she insisted they were "in charge" and offered to guide me through troubleshooting steps. Suspecting a scam, I hung up and have since blocked the number.

My mobile phone did not ring but apparently I had a call and I did not answer. The warning was 'Suspected Scam'. What else?

The caller identified themselves as a creative web designer but has repeatedly contacted me without my request, leading me to believe these calls are unsolicited.

I received a noisy call from a call center claiming to be the "NBN on behalf of Telstra." However, I am not a customer of either organization. Additionally, as NBN is a wholesaler, it should not be reaching out to retail customers directly. I ended the call as it seemed suspicious.

The caller insisted they were from the "Telstra technical department" and claimed there was a "security issue with my IP address." I decided to block their number and report the incident.
