Are You Dealing with a Scam? Understanding 02 7202 0996

If you've received a call from 02 7202 0996 / 0272020996, you're not alone. Recent reports indicate that this number is tied to suspicious activities likely posing as a scam. According to user reviews, this particular number has been associated with someone claiming to be from CommBank, attempting to verify fraudulent activity on debit cards. However, caution is necessary. Let’s explore the details behind the reports and how you can protect yourself.

The Story Behind the Number

One user reported receiving a text message purportedly from CommBank, claiming they would receive a follow-up call regarding suspicious activity on their debit card. Moments later, a call came from the same number. The caller knew personal reference codes and provided alarming information about attempted transactions. This immediate knowledge can give a false sense of security, often employed in sophisticated phishing scams.

Identifying the Potential Scam

  • Misleading Claims: Scammers often impersonate legitimate institutions, such as banks, to evoke urgency and urgency can cloud judgement.
  • Request for Sensitive Information: A key red flag here is the request for security questions and banking details, including card number and CVV.
  • Pressure Tactics: Legitimate banks will not pressure you into revealing sensitive information over the phone.

What Should You Do?

If you receive a call from 02 7202 0996:

  • Do Not Engage: Avoid giving any personal information over the phone.
  • Verify Directly: Independently contact CommBank using verified contact numbers to confirm if they reached out to you.
  • Report the Call: Notify the authorities if you suspect a scam, as this could help protect others from potential fraud.

Conclusion: Stay Vigilant

Being targeted by scammers is unsettling, but knowledge is your best defense. With the rising instances of fraud attempts through calls and texts, homeowners need to be on high alert. Remember that Reverseau offers the tools necessary for a Reverse Phone Lookup Australia, allowing you to easily identify the caller and take necessary steps to protect yourself from potential scams like the one attached to 02 7202 0996 / 0272020996.

Suspicious

Hi,

I've received a message first, apparently from CommBank, that someone will contact you with this number to verify a recent activity on my debit card. They have also provided a ref. No in the message.

Then I've received a phone call from this number in less than a min, the guy said he is from Commback and knew the ref code, mentioned there was an attempt to debit ~700 from my account that they are trying to verify it.

So, when I said it wasn't me, he mentioned that then they need to cancel my card issue a new one and I said, no problem but he started to ask some questions, SECURITY QUESTIONS!!!, about my card number, expiry date, last transaction,.. And firstly I gave them my last 8 digit of cards and last time I've purchased transferred money but then felt unsafe to give him my CCV number and told him I would rather to go to a branch and talk to them face to face.

Still not entirely sure if that was a legit call or not but definitely didn't look like a normal call.

So, please check with your bank and be mindful.

About This Report

This page is part of the Reverseau Scam Intelligence Database, a community-driven dataset maintained by Reverseau since 2014. The database documents caller behaviour across Australian phone numbers based on first-hand user experiences.

Each entry is generated when individuals who received calls or messages from a number submit a report through our review form. Reports include a caller safety rating (1–5 scale) and a written account of the interaction. All submissions are moderated before publication.

The safety rating shown on this page reflects the collective assessment of (02) 7202 0996 by real users. It measures perceived caller risk, not the quality of this page. A low rating indicates that reporters consider this number likely to be associated with scam or spam activity.
