I just got same text with same code and requesting a call back on same number and it appears under Google messages in my phone. It seems, Optus simply matches the Sender name and PUSH it there regardless the actual number attached to the sender.
Suspect this is a clever scam and that this number has been hacked.
It arrived on a message thread that sends me Google codes, but it’s arrived out of the blue, I’m not resetting an account, and it’s come in a different format.
Google messages have ALWAYS read like this: G-xxxxxx is your Google verification code. Don't share your code with anyone.
THIS TIME, the format is asking me to call them. RED FLAG: Your device verification code is 243-452 NOT you? Please call +61 2 6181 0702.
Not phone that number. No way.
Just got a dodgy text saying something about Google verification. They want you to ring a number if you didn’t ask for a code. Big red flags, folks!
"Another call from this number, pretending to be the Google Authenticator App and saying my account got synced to some other device. Seriously? Just blatant scamming!”
Straight up a scammer, mate. Avoid at all costs!
Community reports are retained as historical safety signals within the Reverseau telecommunications safety dataset and may reflect different experiences over time.
