Thanks to everyone who wrote a review. I received a missed call and I called back. I was advised they did an audit during this period and that I had an arrest warrant if I hung up, I gave out my name and address stupidly, they sound SOOO legit.. Eventually, they were being so pushy about settling this in court and wanted to speak to my lawyer because they sent notices that went unresponded.. I looked up this number quickly and I said I'm going to have to call the ATO and they hung up on me! I guess I'm going to be arrested in the next hour - going to call the ATO for real now just in case..
I got called by a message telling me I had not responded to letters from ATO and to ring this number urgently or action would be taken. At first I believed it but then realised it was probably a scam and didn't ring back. At the first opportunity I researched it on the internet. I have reported the matter to the ATO and I would like to point out the most useful piece of advice they gave to me -.
If ever the ATO has called you regarding debt, personal information or even simply your TFN, call the ATO back on their registered phone number and they can always have access to cases regarding your name. Never will they call and say there is an arrest warrant on your name. This is the most used tactic.
