Received a call from this crowd yesterday, offering refunds on overpaid taxes and GST over the past 7 - 9 Years... The same sum as previously mentioned in comments here...$7447.00 and the cost for legals would be $250.00 payable at any Post Office.
They will tell you approx 1700 people are being paid this refund in this 'current batch'. They are Asian speaking people.
I rang an Australian federal Senator's office... They said a scam. I rang the Ministry of Finace.. They said a scam. I rang the Post Office... They said a scam.
I have one question at this point. If a scam is identified, why don't the authorities locate these phone numbers and charge the people involved.... This scam has been going on long enough for someone to have traced them by now.
Final comment : I was almost taken in this one time due to the idea of payments being made to our Aust Post Office... Not to anyone else... How come ?
A scam that has been reported, but why is it still an active number???
I was called by a private called first saying she was from the Reclaim Department of the Government in Canberra. I was told to call 0261007721 & speak with Mr. Andrew Anderson as I was overcharged by the government by an amount of $7.447.00 IN Taxes & GST overcharging. When I rang Mr. Anderson I was told I needed to go to the Post Office & pay $350 for solicitors charges to get the money. This is a SCAM.
Call made from this number to my grandmother -receipt from Western Union - owing $7k Plus, etc. Pattern is they prey on elderly people?
Number is from a scammer indian lady claiming to be from the reclaim department of Australian Federal Government.
I received a call from this number by an Indian lady today stating that she was from the Fed Gov & offering $7000 for overcharges paid by me to the Gov.
Please be careful this is definitely a scam.
My elderly father got a call saying he was owed over $7000 from the government. But he had to pay $200 in lawyer fees before he could get the money. Luckily he called me and I told him it was a scam. He may not get $7000+, but he isn't out of pocket $200.
PLEASE protect your elderly relatives, as the are too trusting of the wrong people.
Phone call from indian person claiming to be from the reclaim department of the federal government telling me I was owed money for overpaid bank charges no record of such a department on gov web sites I have had previous call from different numbers with the same scam BE CAREFUL they ask you to ring back and give details that a genuine gov dept would know.
