Understanding the Risks of Calls from 02 6100 3201

The phone number 02 6100 3201 / 0261003201 has raised alarm bells among users, being reported consistently as a scam associated with impersonating the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). The increasingly alarming claims made by callers have not only left individuals feeling anxious but also prompted serious concerns about the legitimacy of such calls.

Nature of the Scam

Reports indicate that this number is primarily being used to execute a tax fraud scam. Callers, typically presenting themselves with names like "Jeff" or "Jeff Morgan," falsely claim to be representatives from the ATO. They often initiate contact with urgent warnings about imminent tax evasion consequences, demanding immediate payments or personal data under the guise of a tax audit.

Why It’s Important to Verify

As documented in multiple user reviews, individuals have been misled into believing the legitimacy of these calls, only to discover upon verification that no outreach had been made by the ATO. The real taxation office has an official protocol for contacting taxpayers, which involves sending a notice by post before making any calls. Highlights from user experiences include:

  • Unsolicited Contact: Calls are made without prior notice, with no official trace in the system.
  • High Pressure Tactics: Callers create a sense of urgency, asking victims to transfer money immediately.
  • Fake Identifiers: Callers frequently pose under names that seem official but ultimately remain unverifiable.

What You Can Do

If you receive a call from 02 6100 3201 / 0261003201 or any similar unsolicited calls claiming to be from the ATO:

  • Do Not Engage: Avoid sharing personal information or making payments over the phone.
  • Verify the Call: Hang up and contact the ATO directly using the official contact details located on their website.
  • Report the Scam: Notify the ATO and your local authorities about the scam to help protect others.

Conclusion

In conclusion, 02 6100 3201 / 0261003201 is a number to be highly cautious of. It operates under false pretenses, targeting individuals with fear-based tactics about tax audits. Staying informed and vigilant is key to avoiding falling victim to these types of scams. Scam

This morning my poor mother was in panic mode when she said there was a message on the phone from Jeff Morgan ATO Audit and that you should not ignore the call and it's urgent.

After listening to the message myself, which was automated and didn't even confirm who they want to speak to. The whole thing sounds like a scam to me.

I'm fairly certain the ATO are likely to serve you notice by post then call you.

We got a call from this number. Definitely a scam. Electronic message said it was the audit department of the tax office asking us to call Jeff...... Urgently. Called them back was immediately suspicious as it sound like a call centre. Man with an Asian accent ask what number I was calling from. I asked him why he needed to know. Tax office usually do a security check before discussing anything with you.
