Same scam number but this time claimed to be 'Officer Johnson' from the 'Cash Crime Division'...sounds like a low quality computer generated recording... Should take a technology and ethics course... Has a lot to learn.

Guys, same story here.. Recieved a call today and couple of weeks ago, called back and someone claimed from the ATO Fraud division and after I enquired he got irritated and abused me and hung up.. Called back and number is always busy.. Reported to the ATO who advised its a scam.

I received this message a couple of weeks ago and then.

Again today.

This time there was a message and the message left was obvious a recorded one with an American accent saying they were from ATO and from then tax crime and if I didn't drop my work and attend to this message, it would fall on me. It said I needed to call John Smith on this number immediately or have my Attorney call.

Total Scam Don't reply. Who needs this harassment.

I received a missed call just now from this number. Previously (about 2 weeks ago) I received a threatening voicemail message telling me I owed money to ATO and legal action was going to be taken if I did not pay.

Sadly I do not answer calls anymore from people I do not know.

I reported this to the ATO. They are great and said they work on tracking down numbers when reported to try and get the number deregistered or something like that. I suggest anyone called by this number also call the ATO and report.

I received a call from this number today. Rang the ATO and they confirmed it is a scam. Please do not answer or confirm any personal details. Just hang up. Pass this message on to everyone you know.

Automated voice message (voice to text bot) claiming to be the ATO TAX Fraud devision. ATO will not call you regarding this matter without sending you a letter first.

Ends the call with "If you do not return this call, then I wish you good luck as the situation explodes around you!".

I have been getting many calls from this number but never picked it up because when I'm at work, I don't take any calls and I reckon if it was important, the person on the other side would leave a message. I just got the same call with a recorded message, American accent. I just hung up.

I just received a couple of missed calls on my mobile this morning around 9:00 am (25/09) and called them back. They said they're from the ATO crime squad and that there's a miscalculation on my tax return and need to pay around $2.600 today otherwise I'll have to see them in court.

I told them I expect my accountant to have told me about this and he said that my accountant is the one that's sent the miscalculation to them.

I asked when I would receive a letter about this and he said that the letter will be sent after I made the payment to them today.

I said that doesn't sound right and is a bit dodgy to me. I then asked what his name was and he said Roy Miller you stupid!

Then hanged up.

I tried to call back from a private number and it goes straight to a "busy mode". But if you call from a mobile or an identifiable number you can get through.

I've been trying to call them back because I want to track where they are and locate them so I can kick their @sses. I don't care if they live on the other side of the world - I will find these culprits because they will succeed in scamming monies through some unfortunate person out there.

When I succeeded in getting through a couple of times, they hanged up before I can continue with the conversation further. I've got nothing against Indians but they sounded Indian so I'd imagine it's an overseas call centre using an Australian number.

If we can find where they purchase this number from then we can find out who owns it and track the source.

By the way, I just spoke to my accountant and he too laughed as these are scammers and not to worry about it as the ATO will always send letters before anything and will even organise a payment plan with you. Apparently, the ATO has been investigating this and are aware of these scammers. It's also been going on for a while.

I just wish the ATO will find out right away who these people are and I'm even happy to help out and investigate this further.

Received a call this morning from 02 6100 3060 claiming it was the ATO foreign crime....

I believe it to be a phone scam.

Same here but on my work number. A recorded message with an american accent saying it was the ASIO Tax Crime Commission and that I should return the call or they wish us good luck? What does that mean? I called them back and when I said I was calling from a business they said wrong number we don't call business and just rudely hung up on me. If that was really a government agency I doubt they would do that. Everytime I call back now they just hang up without answering. Not happy about this at all.

Yes, I received a recorded message when answering my home phone and again after a few minutes, when answering my mobile. From the ATO Crime Squad it said and there had been a miscalculation on my recent tax return. Problem was I don't have a recent tax return as I'm over 60 yo and I don't need to submit a tax return any more.

Received same recorded message earlier today. Pretty sure it's the same jokers running the scam reported here [link] (they also called my number a couple of weeks ago from 02 6100 3068).

Also got a call from this. VERY foreign sounding guy with the name Ben Lewis, supposedly.

Received a call today from this number. A electronic message was recorded saying the call was from the ATO crime squad and that I should drop whatever I am doing and call them right away. Of course I didn't and see other numbers with similar prefixes have been reported on this site as well so just adding this number to the scammer's portfolio.
