Received a call from 02 6089 4510? This number has been identified as a potential scam associated with fake CommBank fraud warnings. Learn how to handle this situation safely.

Identifying the Scam: 02 6089 4510

The phone number 02 6089 4510 has raised significant concerns among users, with reports indicating that it is involved in a scam purporting to be from Commonwealth Bank (CommBank). Calls from this number typically present a recorded message claiming there has been fraudulent activity on the victim's account. Surprisingly, the caller fails to personalise the message by not using the recipient's name or any specific account details, lending to the amateur nature of this scam.

Understanding the Scam Type

This particular scam can be categorised as a phishing scam. The intent behind such calls is clear – to manipulate individuals into providing personal or financial information under the guise of urgency over account security. Scammers may suggest that failure to act immediately could result in accounts being "closed", a term carefully chosen to evoke panic rather than using more common phrases like "suspended" or "blocked".

How to Handle Such Calls

If you receive a call from 02 6089 4510:

  • Do Not Provide Personal Information: Never share your full name, address, account numbers, or PINs over the phone unless you are certain you are speaking to a verified representative of a legitimate organisation.
  • Hang Up: If you suspect the call is a scam, simply hang up. Stopping the conversation early can prevent further attempts at fraud.
  • Report the Call: Inform organisations like the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) or Scamwatch. Reporting helps authorities track scam trends and protect others.
  • Verify Independently: If you are genuinely concerned about your account, reach out to CommBank directly using the contact details listed on their official website or your bank statements.

Conclusion

The case of 02 6089 4510 serves as a stark reminder of the increasing sophistication and prevalence of telephone scams. Engaging in a Reverse Phone Lookup Australia can help you identify unknown numbers swiftly, and services like Reverseau offer assistance in tracking these dubious calls. Answered call, recorded voice didn't address me by name but claimed to be CommBank advising me that there was fraudulent activity on my account and account would closed if I didn't continue call (used"closed" rather than suspended or blocked).. Still didn't use my name or account number (part), so amateur scam but annoying.

About This Report

This page is part of the Reverseau Scam Intelligence Database, a community-driven dataset maintained by Reverseau since 2014. The database documents caller behaviour across Australian phone numbers based on first-hand user experiences.

Each entry is generated when individuals who received calls or messages from a number submit a report through our review form. Reports include a caller safety rating (1–5 scale) and a written account of the interaction. All submissions are moderated before publication.

The safety rating shown on this page reflects the collective assessment of (02) 6089 4510 by real users. It measures perceived caller risk, not the quality of this page. A low rating indicates that reporters consider this number likely to be associated with scam or spam activity.
