Called 23/8 prentending to be Commonwealth Bank checking whether I approved a large transfer of funds. I don't have any accounts with CBA but waited for them to come on, however, they hung up immediately.

I missed the call from this number, but the voicemail I received was a robocall stating that I had missed an important call from the Australian government. It prompted me to press buttons for either English or Chinese translation and had a slight Chinese accent. Ultimately, I found it to be unsolicited and quickly deleted it. Another annoying call from Telstra!

I'm noticing that scammers are becoming more clever by using local phone numbers to trick us. I have adopted a policy of not answering any unknown numbers; if the call were legitimate, the caller would leave a message.

Just got called this number last night. Hung up on them first thing since it looked like a scam.

They left an automated sounding message as follows:

“This mobile number will be deactivated in 2 hours. For detailed services: English press 1, Chinese press 2”

So yeah, run of the mill scare tactic scam to phish for personal info.

Block them and move on.
