    Scammer. Block the number. I figured it was as much before answering so gave him an earful before I hung up. It's the third number I've had to block this week.

    I received a call from a scammer claiming that I had filled out a form for a travel voucher. When I asked for their company name and searched it online, I realized it was a scam. I requested an ABN or ACN for verification, and they hung up on me. I strongly advise everyone not to provide any personal information to this number.

    Just another scam call offering to compare my Superannuation fund. I’m on the Do Not Call register, so alarm bells rang straight off. Female caller that wouldn’t take no for an answer. She soon realised she wasn’t getting anywhere with me, so she told me to enjoy the rest of my night, and then hung up. I blocked the number.

    This is similar to the previous report; this caller, using a local number, constantly calls without leaving a message. It's very annoying and is likely a scam or spam.

    The caller ID showed the location as Wollongong, NSW. When I answered, a male voice with an Indian accent started discussing solar rebate schemes. I informed him that I was busy and not interested, then politely said "goodbye" before hanging up. I receive calls like this almost daily, and I suspect they are all possible scam attempts.

    I have a Telstra internet phone that isn't in use or connected, yet the Telstra Gateway under the Telephony section is logging calls. One call from this number occurred on July 1, 2024. Going back as far as August 2023, there are approximately 100 recorded calls that include many repeat numbers. Some of these numbers are from the USA, but most appear to be Australian numbers. I’m relieved we decided not to connect this phone!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
