This call appears to be part of a hoax, as advised by AGL in July. AGL has warned that they will not contact anyone about bill relief, implying that any such calls are fraudulent. All processes regarding bill payments have been completed and certified; thus, this call is likely a scam.
I received a call from a person claiming to be from AGL, but it was difficult to hear the conversation. They asked for my name to confirm who they were speaking to. I told them that since they called me, they should already have that information. Then, they inquired if it was a good time to talk, and I replied no, at which point the caller hung up. I suspect this was a scam call, so I have blocked the number.
This number called me twice. I answered the first call, but I couldn't make out what they were saying. I did catch the name "AGL" mentioned. I hung up and ignored the second call altogether.
The phone rang twice before I answered, but it was silent after that. I don't recognize this number, so I suspect it may be a scam.
I have had a call from this number three day's running and am not answering.
0735104952 I believe to be a scam. He said he was from AGL, based in South Africa and wanted to know if we get all the benefits to our account. Started to ask for personal details to verify the account, I told him I didn’t know who he was and wouldn’t provide any details.
The call did not show a caller ID, and I didn't recognize the number as being from Brisbane. I choose not to answer calls from numbers I don't know.
A foreign man called me on my mobile, but I didn't answer. He then called my landline, claiming to be from AGL and wanting to discuss government benefits. When he asked to verify my account, I declined and hung up since my account is perfectly fine.
Definitely Scam, rang AGL to confirm after the phone call. Have reported to both Cybercrime & Scamwatch.
They are phishing for information and bank account details. They also send a follow up email with links. (thank goodness I didn't click on anything!) Very elaborate scam, particularly since they already know most of your details. They rang both the landline and the mobile.
