An Indian caller contacted me claiming to be from an energy company. They knew my name and address and asked if I was the account holder for my residence. A lot of no message left calls will be from telemarketing. Telcos & energy just sub contract out the business of getting people to change. Same call centre could have contracts with them all... I did a change over recently. Just 2 weeks later as I recognised the number & thought it was re my change over to dodo power, he was trying to get me to change again, as another power company had a better deal. I declined. He was a bit pushy saying why wouldn't you. I pushed back & said even though I'm poor I'm not doing this nonsense every few weeks or months. Even while I get you are just working hard to get your wage & commission I guess. I queried about different numbers from him, over the Dodo power 2 stage process, over 2 weeks, re my request for hard mail confirmation, more secure & recourse with hard mail these days. He said our system generates different no's. Was a bit technical in explaining why, but he did say it is against the law for them to leave VM. But I gather the different no's was to do with limited staff all attempting to call 100s of people in one day type thing needs for different numbers...dunno... Scams would obviously do the same. Legit Australia based Charities or such as oz conservation society may try calling too, after a donation for eg to try encourage smaller but regular debited donations, which is more beneficial than one offs big ones for obvious reasons & can you blame them these days.
