The phone number 0488 839 160 / 0488839160 has garnered considerable attention in recent reports, categorising it firmly as a spam caller. Users have shared multiple experiences indicating that this number is persistent in its attempts to mislead the public, often claiming to represent established companies such as AGL. Here, we will delve deeper into the malicious context surrounding this number, drawing on user insights to highlight the dangers it poses.
A common thread among various reports is the suspicious nature of calls received from 0488 839 160 / 0488839160. According to one user on 20 May 2024, the caller, described as an "Indian guy", attempted to pitch broadband services while impersonating AGL. This was a clear red flag, as AGL is primarily known for energy provision and not broadband services. Coupled with the absurd offer of $250, many users have reported feeling outright mocked by the caller's tactics, likening it to a fictional scenario.
Additional reviews from the same period reveal patterns of unsolicited calls that followed a disturbing formula: silence on the line before hang-ups, name recognition, and potential data mining. One reviewer noted that the caller appeared to know their name and associated company, raising suspicion about the source of this leaked information—most likely from dubious data mining practices, which have become increasingly common among spam callers. This form of information gathering is not only invasive but can lead to more calculated scam attempts.
And while there might be a vague connection with AGL due to their recent expansions into internet services, the overwhelming consensus from user feedback is that this is a scam operation. Legitimate companies such as AGL should never reach out inquiring about private data or offering unusual deals. If you receive a call from this number, it is best to hang up immediately, report the call as spam, and consider blocking the number to avoid further disturbances.
In conclusion, when dealing with unsolicited calls from 0488 839 160 / 0488839160, remember the importance of protecting your personal information. Always err on the side of caution—if something feels off, it likely is. Spam. Indian guy answered with busy office hum in background, claimed from AGL but offered broadband internet and asked how much I’m paying for my broadband. That made no sense as broadband has no relation to AGL. He offered.
$250 also, yeah right. And I’m Father Christmas.
