Identifying the Scam: Who Called From 0485 822 439?

If you've received a call from the number 0485 822 439 / 0485822439, it’s crucial to be aware that this is a reported scam phone number. Users have identified this number as part of an unlawful operation, specifically impersonating Telstra service representatives under the guise of providing technical support regarding a supposed system error.

The Scam Explained

According to a user report dated 22nd January 2025, a caller from this number claimed to have received notifications about system errors from Telstra's head office. Notably, this individual explicitly stated they do not have an account with Telstra, which prompted the caller to dismiss the relevance of the account status, insisting they would still assist with what they termed “corruption” within the system. This behaviour raises significant red flags.

Reasons We Classify This as a Scam

  • Inappropriate Conduct: The caller’s sudden rudeness when questioned suggests a lack of genuine professionalism that one would expect from a legitimate company.
  • Call Hang-up: The abrupt termination of the call when the user asked for a callback number is a strong indicator of deceit.
  • Call Centre Background: The reported background chatter resembling a call centre implies that this could be part of a larger scam operation rather than an isolated incident.

Received a call from this number on 20/01/2025 stating they had received notifications from head office Telstra of a system error. I let them know I do not have Telstra and they confirmed it didn't matter but they would help with the corruption. I asked for a call back number should we be disconnected and this is when they hung up. There was a lot of background chatter like a call centre and the caller had a thick accent. Was rude when I pushed back and grew frustrated quickly. SCAM - do not engage with if they call you.
