Understanding the Reports on 0447 268 622

The phone number 0447 268 622 / 0447268622 has raised numerous flags among users, particularly concerning its association with various messages impersonating the Commonwealth Bank. While some acknowledge that the number may be part of the bank’s fraud prevention efforts, multiple reviews lean heavily towards classifying it as a scam.

The Scam Alert: What to Know

Reports have been circulating since 2014, where users received text messages claiming to represent Commonwealth Bank. These messages typically report unusual transactions or requests for verification—often correctly noting the last four digits of users' credit cards. However, these messages are, more often than not, fraudulent attempts to gather further personal information.

The common practice outlined by users who fell victim tends to reflect a phishing scam strategy. Scammers lure individuals into responding 'YES' or 'NO' to confirm transactions they did not initiate, thereby granting fraudsters access to sensitive information. The assertion by several users that they contacted Commonwealth Bank to verify these messages, only to be told it was not an official text, adds credence to these alarming reports.

Classifying 0447 268 622

This number appears to fall into the dreaded category of suspicious activity blended with phishing scam tactics. While some reviews claim truthfulness linked to the bank’s monitoring systems, the overwhelming consensus suggests you should remain vigilant, as it’s better to err on the side of caution in these situations.

How to Handle Calls or Messages from 0447 268 622

  • Do Not Respond: Avoid replying to any messages as this could confirm your number as active to scammers.
  • Contact Your Bank Directly: Use the official phone numbers from your banking documents or website for direct communication.
  • Check Your Accounts: Keep an eye on your banking activity for any unauthorised transactions.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: If you're contacted by this number, report it to local authorities and consider notifying your bank’s fraud department.

In Conclusion

While there might be conflicting reports regarding the legitimacy of 0447 268 622 / 0447268622, the overwhelming feedback from users supports a classification of this number as suspicious. Maintaining heightened awareness and prioritizing communication through official channels is imperative in safeguarding your personal information from these prevalent scams.

Legitimate! I was skeptical at first as it showed a normal phone number, then I received a mail in my Netbank saying there was security alarm. I called CBA and got my card placed. So better to check on the online bank or with CBA directly.

Another confirmation that the +61447268622 is a ligitimate no. Randomly generated by the fraudulent department of CBA. I was received an SMS asking to answer Yes or No to the transaction and I did so. After that I thought it was very strange so I called 132221 the next day. The lady staff informed me that someone was trying to compromise my credit card so they stopped it to happen and then sent me the SMS to validate the truth. Finally, she solved the problem by sending me a new card and ask me to set a new pin. They really do a good job!! Thanks CBA.

Oh it's legitimate! Please respond to CBA like I did, CBA doing a terrific job keeping our $ safe!

I was dubious after reading the comments, buts it's actually legitimate. Check you netbank to confirm. My credit card details had been stolen and used for $2000 of internet purchases in the last hour.

NOT A SCAM.

I received the following message verbatim:

Commonwealth Bank would like to confirm if you have attempted a transaction at tesco store. Please reply YES or NO.

I was sceptical at first, but I decided to call CBA directly through the customer service details on their official website. It turned out to be legitimate and there was a $2.000+ fraudulent transaction on my card.

I would advise that if you are unsure, don't simply ignore it, but always contact the source from their official communication channels for confirmation.

Following previous comment. Obviously don't call the mobile number, call the customer service number as advertised on the CBA website or from a bill.

I got this same text from CommBank and after reading conflicting comments here called the bank to confirm. It turned out to be a legitimate text following a declined transaction.

Not sure why people are claiming it's a scam, but don't take my word for it, give them a call, no point messing around with bank security.

This is a SCAM!!!! Do not do anything I called commbank and they told me to delete the message, change my account password and monitor the accounts. I have read the comments and people are saying it's really. ITS NOT!! call them and find out for yourself.

I received an SMS from this number claiming to be from the Commonwealth Bank and asking me to reply Y/N to confirm a transaction. Called CBA and they confirmed it was a legitimate SMS from their anti-fraud systems. Turns out my credit card details had been used for a fraudulent transaction, so I'm glad I didn't ignore this message! My advice is to treat these messages as legitimate and to call CBA ASAP if one alerts you to a fraudulent transaction.

H

Exactly the same as V. Requesting confirmation of a transaction.

Commbank has plenty of other legitimate ways to contact me I treated this as a scam. I assume they are just trying to confirm that my phone number is active to put me on a list to be sold to other scammers.

M

Scam.

I confirm also that this is a SCAM!!

I called Comm bank and they did not send the message.

The people writing that this is not a scam are probably part of the scam.

After reading this comments saying it could be a scam, I rang the CBA, they communicated with the security team and they told me the number was legit.

An AUD 3000+ transaction was attempted on my Credit Card. The cancelled the card and they are going to send me a new one.

C

Surely police would have the power to track down who owns this number and ping them?

F

I received an SMS asking if I made a transaction from the last place I made a purchase.

I called commbank staff to ask why they're doing this from a random mobile number. I think it's pretty stupid if you ask me.

Seems it legit.

I'm not sure what information everyone is using above. If you receive an SMS related to a transaction you did not make, obviously someone is using your credit card without your authorisation. However, the mobile number 0447 268 622 is used by a legitimate automated system operated by the Commonwealth Bank, and you should reply Yes or No truthfully based on whether you made the transaction or not.

I received a message based on a transaction I made, and I rang the bank to check that the message was from them. The message correctly listed the vendor and my financial institution, but there was no other information listed, so I rang to check. I was assured by the security staff that the message was a legitimate message.

It would have also been nice if at the same time they put a flag on the Commbank app or on Netbank so I could corroborate that CommBank had actually flagged the transaction. Would have saved me calling.

I got a sms from this number. It is a SCAM. Ring the official commonwealth bank number from their site and they will confirm it is not from them. Some scammer has some of your details and needs more from you to be able to steal your information. Don't whatever you do give any information to any number not on the official commonwealth bank site.

After shopping at Coles Phillips Canberra I received hoax SMS from this number and following caller from 02 80702202. Confirmed with CBA in person that it is a scam.

However how the personal info is leaked need to be investigated. Probably the cashier is involved.

Just received a text message from this number claiming to be the Commonwealth Bank. They were seeking verification if I had attempted a transaction at a particular retail outlet and then asked me to reply YES or NO. It then followed up with another text a few minutes later stating it was "important to respond to our previous message" with a YES or NO. Spoke to Comm Bank and they said there was definitely no attempted transaction at the said outlet. They then noted the details on my account and the mobile number used.

This number has been used to spam and it is confirmed by CBA.

Got text re CBA bank - asking to verify a transaction!

E

Same thing here, really weird. don't know how they know the amount of the transaction and how do they get my last 4 numbers. Need to stop this.

J

Got a text saying it was Commonwealth Bank asking me to verfiy strange activity on my card and they had the correct last 4 digits.

This is a scam! Whatever you do don't text it back as that gives them all the information they need to then go on a spending spree with your card. To be safe go straight into your bank and cancel your card and order a new one.

G
Goto

Received 2 text messages in quick succession. They knew the last 4 digits to my card and wanted to verify a charge.

My bank personally calls me about this stuff, and the phone number is never displayed. This is a scam.

I called the number and was advised the mobile is switched off. It didn't switch me over to the CBA call centre.

DO NOT REPLY TO THESE! Personally walk into your bank or call the dedicated support number to verify everything.
