0427 879 197 has been reported as a scam number used for fraudulent text messages. Learn how to identify its scheme and what steps to take if you receive a call or message from this number.
The phone number 0427 879 197 has garnered attention as a clear example of a scam operation. User reports indicate that this number is employed in deceptive schemes designed to trick individuals into costly subscriptions and to mislead voters regarding their electoral status.
Based on the experiences shared by users, it appears that the first interaction often comes in the form of a text message. For instance, a report from 06 February 2017 described receiving a text promoting a "WORLD EXPO," which prompted recipients to reply with a simple 'y' to secure an appointment. This tactic is a ploy to sign individuals up for a pay-per-text subscription, generating unwarranted charges without the recipient's consent.
Furthermore, another report dated 23 August 2017 details a message that insinuated urgency regarding electoral enrolment. The text stated, "You won't get to vote on Marriage equality if you're not correctly enrolled! 24hrs 2 check your details." This deceptive communication exploited the serious matter of voting by seemingly coming from an official source, leading users to question the legitimacy of its origin. A significant giveaway was the incorrect grammar used, which is not characteristic of official communication from the Australian Electoral Commission.
Given the nature of these reports, it is evident that 0427 879 197 is involved in at least two types of scams: one targeting individuals through premium text subscriptions and another trying to mislead people about their voting details.
So, how should you deal with this number?
- Ignore any messages from 0427 879 197 and do not respond. Engaging with the sender could lead you to unintended subscriptions or increased spam messages.
- If you receive a text concerning important topics like electoral enrolment, verify through official channels rather than responding to unsolicited messages.
- Consider blocking the number to prevent further communications.
- Report the number to local authorities or relevant agencies that handle such scams, as this action can help protect others.
In conclusion, if you've been curious about who called or texted you from a suspicious number, employing a reverse phone lookup Australia service can aid in identifying potential scams like 0427 879 197. Always remain vigilant and cautious with unsolicited communications; it could save you from unnecessary complications.

I didn't click the link or respond STOP because #1: I have already checked & updated my details & the phone number on file was not the one they text & #2: I'm pretty sure that any communication from the Australian Electoral Commission would not use 'ur' instead of 'you're', both were used in the text which that alone is not what I'd expect from the AEC.
This number +61427879197 sent me a text about a WORLD EXPO and told me to text back y to secure an appointment. This is a scam that will sign you up for a pay-per-text subscription service.
