- Scam
Beware of calls from 0427 772 316 - a scam impersonating the Australian Border Force. Learn how to handle these fraudulent calls and protect yourself.
Understanding the Scam Behind 0427 772 316
The phone number 0427 772 316 / 0427772316 has been reported as a scam, specifically impersonating the Australian Border Force. Reports indicate that callers receive an automated message claiming that illegal substances have been found in intercepted mail addressed to them.
What to Expect from the Call
When you receive a call from this number, it is likely that you will hear a recorded message threatening you with arrest due to a supposedly intercepted package. The message instructs you to press 1 to speak with an "officer," which is a common tactic used by scammers to initiate a conversation and further unearth personal information or extract money from unsuspecting victims.
Recognising the Scam
This type of fraud is alarming and plays on individuals' fears. Scammers often pose as government agencies, leveraging authority to coerce their targets into compliance. In this case, if you press 1, the scammer is known to suggest paying fines using gift cards or Western Union, a classic sign of a scam.
How to Protect Yourself
- Do Not Engage: If you receive a call from 0427 772 316 / 0427772316 or any similar number, hang up immediately. Engaging with the caller can lead to further solicitation.
- Verify Through Official Channels: If you have concerns about a package or legal issues, independently contact the relevant organisation using official contact information.
- Report the Scam: Informing the relevant authorities about such scams can be beneficial in curbing these fraudulent activities. In Australia, you can report scams to Scamwatch.
Utilising Reverseau or a Reverse Phone Lookup in Australia can help you identify unknown numbers and protect yourself from potential scams. Remember, legitimate agencies do not threaten individuals with arrest over the phone.

What Our Users Reviewed
Another Scam. Recorded voice message says they are calling from Australian Border Force and that they have intercepted a mail package for me with illegal contents and they have issued a warrant for my arrest. LOL! Similar to several phone scams going around: the recording asks you to press 1 to speak to an officer/agent/whatever. I hung up at that point but I presume they then tell you to ‘pay a fine’ with gift cards or Western Union or something equally ridiculous.
