Many have reported experiences of receiving calls from this number where the caller claimed to represent the NBN, attempting to push a fabricated narrative about illegal internet activities and urging recipients to disclose personal information.

The Nature of the Scam

This particular scam involves the caller alleging that the victim has visited illegal websites and that urgent action is necessary to rectify the situation. Interestingly, the scammer often provides a nonsensical response when questioned about the victim’s internet provider, such as claiming an invalid IP address like 127.0.0.1 before abruptly terminating the call when challenged further. This indicates that the caller is not a legitimate representative of any legitimate service, but a fraudster hoping to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

  • Hang up: If the conversation feels off or if they press for information, simply hang up. It’s not worth the risk.
  • Report the number: Inform your telecommunications provider about the suspicious call and consider reporting it to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

Scam!

Trying to trick you into believing they call from National Broadband Network Australia.

They have their story where you did visit illegal websites.

When I asked what provider they are, they said they are from National Broadband Network Australia.

When asking what IP address I have they said 127.0.0.1 and closed the phone.

Don’t believe these scammers.
