Understanding the Risks of 0423 465 584

The phone number 0423 465 584 / 0423465584 has raised red flags among users in Australia, being categorized as a suspected scam. According to various reports, individuals have received calls claiming to be from reputable banks, which is a common tactic used by scammers pretending to be legitimate financial institutions.

Scam Type Analysis

When users reported their experiences, they mentioned being informed about a supposed $1000 internet transaction. Despite having no affiliation with Commonwealth Bank, the caller attempted to maintain the façade by switching to another major bank, ANZ, when met with confusion. Such behaviour strongly indicates that this number is involved in a phishing scam, where the caller attempts to extract personal banking information under false pretenses.

Why the Classification of Scam?

A comprehensive evaluation based on user reports highlights the following:

  • Calls are claiming to represent established banks but are unable to provide valid identification or details relevant to the recipient.
  • Scammers often employ tactics such as name-dropping of well-known institutions to gain trust and manipulate callers into divulging sensitive information.
  • The abrupt termination of calls when questioned signifies the lack of legitimacy, common amongst fraudulent callers.

What to Do If You Receive a Call from 0423 465 584

If you receive a call from this number (or similar), follow these steps to protect yourself:

  • Do not provide personal information: Legitimate institutions will never ask for sensitive information over the phone.
  • Terminate the call: If you suspect a scam, hang up immediately.
  • Verify independently: If you believe there may be a legitimate issue, call your bank directly using their official number to check for any concerns.
  • Report the number: You can report suspicious calls to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to help those who may fall victim to similar scams.

The caller claimed to be from Commonwealth Bank. However, when I mentioned that I don’t bank with them, they then asked if I bank with ANZ. Upon my response that I don’t use either bank, they abruptly hung up. This is definitely a scam!

I received a call from this number where the caller claimed there was a $1000 internet transaction. When I asked which bank they were referring to, they said Commonwealth Bank, but I do not have an account with them. This raised my suspicions about the legitimacy of the call.
