Identifying the Threat: 0417 092 992
The phone number 0417 092 992 / 0417092992 has raised significant concern among users, with reports categorically classifying it as a scam. Feedback from individuals who have received calls from this number reveal a suspicious pattern often associated with fraudulent activities. Primarily, the caller poses as a representative of the Commonwealth Bank, leveraging intimidation tactics linked to potential unauthorised transactions.
The Scam in Detail
On 10 December 2021, one user vividly described their encounter with a caller claiming to be from Commonwealth Bank. The conversation began with alarming claims of an $800 international money transfer that the user had not authorised. Many scammers follow a similar template, creating a fabricated sense of urgency designed to elicit quick, unconsidered reactions.
The caller, reportedly of Indian descent, employed loud background noise—often a tactic used to enhance the impersonation and distract the victim from questioning the authenticity of the call. Instead of using the caller's name, the conversation purposely lacked personal touch, which raised immediate red flags. The operator went even further, suggesting the instalment of a supposed "Robotic Security App" to enhance the fictitious security measures. This classic ruse demonstrates the hallmark traits of a well-scripted scam.

- Pressure tactics: Scammers often create urgency, compelling you to act quickly without reflection.
- Unrealistic proposals: Offers for security apps without prior security discussions are usually fraudulent.
- Suspicious call characteristics: Background noise and lack of professionalism can indicate a con artist.

What Our Users Reviewed
Indian, very noisy background. Called me pretending to be Commonwealth Bank saying someone has attempted an international money transfer of $800, and if I didn't authorise it would I like to stop it.
Then went on and said they can offer better security and asked what defvice I was using so he could talk me through how to connec to their 'Robotic Security App.' They never used my name, plus, that's not how CBA operates. I told them I wasn't born yesterday, and that's not how it works, so they should try their scam on somebody else. He immediately hung up without saying another word.
