Classifying this number, it appears to be primarily suspicious with strong indications of a potential scam targeting individuals with false government survey claims.

What Users Are Reporting

The feedback regarding 03 9978 5211 / 0399785211 reveals several key themes:

  • Suspicious Claims: Callers often present themselves as conducting a cost of living survey on behalf of the Victorian Government. However, many recipients question the legitimacy of these claims—especially when they don’t reside in Victoria or don’t recall opting into such surveys.
  • No Voicemail Messages: Users frequently report that these calls are often followed by silence or no voicemail—the hallmark of a number looking to evade reliable identification.

Why is This Number Suspicious?

The elements surrounding calls from 03 9978 5211 / 0399785211 raise several red flags. The lack of transparency from the callers, vague responses about their affiliation with any known governmental body, and the absence of a legitimate survey process suggest that this could be a spoofing attempt or a general telemarketing strategy rooted in deceptive practices.

How to Handle Calls from 03 9978 5211

If you receive a call from this number:

  • Do Not Share Personal Information: Never provide sensitive information over the phone, especially when you're unsure about the caller’s legitimacy.
  • Check Government Resources: If you suspect the call is legitimate but still have doubts, check with official government sources to verify if they are conducting surveys.
  • Block and Report: Given its unsolicited and strange nature, consider blocking the number and reporting it to your phone service provider.
  • Consider Using Reverseau: For extra peace of mind, you can always turn to services like Reverseau for a reverse phone lookup in Australia to identify the true source behind the call.

In this age of constant connectivity, staying informed about potential scams is crucial. Remember, if something feels off about a call, it’s always better to be safe than sorry!

I answered the call, but there was complete silence on the other end. This behavior suggests it may be a scam call.

I have received several calls from this number on my mobile phone, and they have never left a voicemail. I tend not to answer calls from numbers I don’t recognize. I think it's unfair that phone companies don’t let people block unknown callers more easily.

A man called asking about a government survey related to level crossings in my area. He inquired about my suburb but then mentioned it was for a different location. Shortly after, I received two additional calls from random numbers that hung up quickly without leaving any messages. Therefore, I advise against answering this number to avoid spam calls.

An unknown caller wanted to ask me survey questions about level crossing removals. After I provided my postcode, they informed me that I wasn't within the survey areas and politely thanked me before ending the call. They did not request any other personal information.

I received a call on my mobile just before 8 PM, but I chose not to answer. The caller did not leave a message, so I have decided to block and delete their number for good measure.

Missed call reported on my mobile around 8 pm tonight. My mobile showed call originating from Melbourne. I'm not in Victoria nor do I know anyone in Melbourne. Will block number and delete missed call.

This number called my mobile phone, but the caller did not leave a voicemail. I am unsure why they called or who they are.

Caller said he was from Victorian Government conducting survey about a level crossing removal in my area. Seemed a bit strange as I don’t think there are any level crossings in my area. Didn’t give him any more of my time.

Had a call on my mobile today 12th July from 03 9978 5211. Well spoken male caller saying he was doing a cost of living survey on behalf of the Victorian Government & would I please answer some questions. Asked who was his department & his reply was quick & mumbled & made no sense & said it was a survey call centre on behalf of Vic Gov. I don't live in Vic so suspicious as to how he got my number then! Could be a scam to maybe tell you there's a cost of living pay-out & to give yr bank or credit card details to receive it? I suggest to be careful what you say to this caller just in case & if you are in Vic ring Gov dept & ask if they are doing fone surveys!
