Understanding the Nature of 02 8552 8087

If you've received a call from 02 8552 8087 / 0285528087, it's essential to take caution. This number has been reported by users as a potential scam posing as a legitimate inquiry from the Commonwealth Bank. The reports indicate callers are claiming there have been suspicious activities related to your card, often trying to elicit sensitive personal information.

Why Classify This Number as Suspicious?

Users have shared experiences that suggest this number operates under deceptive pretences. One specific review from 26th June 2024 details a caller who aggressively claimed to be from the Commonwealth Bank's head office, alerting the recipient of supposedly suspicious overseas activities on their bank card. What raises red flags is the caller's hasty termination of the conversation upon being questioned about their credentials. Legitimate institutions would not respond in such an evasive manner.

Recognising Scams

  • Pressure Tactics: Be wary of callers who pressure you for immediate action, especially regarding sensitive financial matters.
  • Suspicious Caller Claims: If you receive a call from someone claiming to be connected with a bank’s head office and they cannot provide proper verification, it’s likely a scam.
  • Verify Independently: Always check the number by contacting the institution using a trusted source—not any information provided in the suspicious call.

What to Do If You Encounter This Number?

If you receive a call from 02 8552 8087 / 0285528087, do not disclose any personal or banking information. Hang up and independently verify if there are any issues with your account directly with the Commonwealth Bank by contacting them through their official channels.

Was called by this number today claiming to be head office of Commonwealth Bank saying they are calling because there has been suspicious activity on my card and someone tried to use it in the USA. When I questioned him about his credentials and said I was currently at the shopping Centre and would pop into commonwealth. He hastily said I am the head office and I replied no I’ll just go into the bank and ask (I was at work not at the shops I just assumed it was a scam) I was hung up in. The number is linked to a Thai massage Centre in Epping, NSW.
