When it comes to identifying whether a phone number is legitimate, slight nuances can make all the difference. Telemarketing or Something More Sinister?

Users have reported varied experiences with 02 8552 6640, indicating a lingering suspicion surrounding this number. Initial encounters have involved the phone ringing briefly, followed by an immediate disengaged tone, leaving the recipient puzzled and uneasy. This kind of interaction often raises red flags, as unknown numbers that drop calls can suggest either technical issues or potentially dubious intentions.

However, a follow-up review from a user describes a more direct engagement. After persistent calls from numbers with similar digit patterns preceding this one, the user finally answered. The caller—claiming to be Jenny, professionally linked with Telstra and the National Broadband Network—promised users fibre optic services at no extra cost, citing unsatisfactory internet speeds. A notable point of concern in this instance was the user’s insistence on current satisfactory internet speeds, which appears to contrast sharply with the caller's claims.

Why You Should Stay Cautious

The classification of 02 8552 6640 leans towards that of a suspicious telemarketer. Firstly, the lack of findability in any databases raises concerns, especially for legitimate companies. It is not uncommon for scammers to employ similar tactics, providing offers that sound too good to be true, often targeting consumers pretentious about their current services.

Finally answered this call after multiple numbers similar in recent weeks.

Call was from Jenny, for Telstra and National Broadband Network, offering fibre optic service at no extra cost.

Said we had very slow speeds, despite me saying that our speeds are currently 54Mbps.

I finally said I thought it was. Scam because their number is not found when searched.

I picked up the phone after two rings, but heard a disengaged tone right away. This behavior is very suspicious and raises concerns about the legitimacy of the call.
