Have received same message but this time is a female with American or Canadian accent.
Received phonecall to landline at 10:15AM. Went to my voicemail and even though my own voicemail message had not finished speaking, a male person started speaking and stated the same message as others have identified as follows: "The reason behind this call is to notify you that we have criminal case against your name that concerning tax evasion and tax fraud. So if you want further information about your case file, please give us a call back as soon as possible on the direct hot line number: 0283106652 to the ATO headquarter. If we don't hear from you, be prepared to face the consequences." "Have a nice day." I know I have no tax issues so I searched the phone number online and found many posts about a tax scam going around. Have added phone number to reject and spam number lists.
We have a male person rang up this morning with number shown as 02 83106652 and asked for my husband, I asked who the person on the line was, he hung up immediately. We browse through the net and found this is a known scam in Queensland, that use to threaten older residents with tax fraud prosecution. Please investigate and alert all Australian to watch out for this phone scam especially seniors.
I just got a call from this number too, saying they were from the ATO regarding a criminal case of tax evasion. Also said that there would be legal consequences if we didn't call them back. Like the actual ATO would EVER contact people by phone for things like this. They would send snail mail or via MyGov.
