    Computer voice telling me my ANZ account had multiple attempts of $1200 from my account. Man then answered the phone asking how he could help me. I said that they’d called me and asked how I could help him. He then said that I’d had multiple attempts from my debit card that were suspicious. When I pressed him he said it was my “ANZ access advantage credit card”. When I told him I didn’t have an ANZ account, he said “I’m talking about your credit card ma’am”. I hung up at that point. Total scam.

    Scammer advising a payment has been deducted on your card from overseas. They will then ask you to download a screen sharing app - I was prompted to download 'Zoho'. This is how they gain access to your device to then lock you out of accounts and transfer money/sensitive information to their accounts. DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY APPS/CLICK ANY LINKS. Banks will never ask you to screenshare.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
