    I received a call from this number claiming to be from the CBA. CBA has no reason to call me since I do not have a CBA account. What's more, all my phone numbers are on the government's "do not call register," so any unsolicited calls are breaking the law.

    Obvious scam, said he was from CBA. Give away was the Indian accdent as well as strange noise in the background. I was immediately suspicious and asked how I knew he was from the CBA. He replied by quoting the first 4 digits from my vard number (which was wrong). This was another red flag asd a genuine call will quote the last 4 digits (which as essentially random). Another red falg was that the scammer referred to my grey CBA card (very unusual). Just as I was about to engage in a long conversation and have some fun taking up as much of his time asd possible, he realised that I was on to him and promptly hung up.

    Didn't answer. Did not even want to leave my voice with a potential scammer which can be used to harm me further - obviously my personal info has been exposed.

    Thought "Why would I get a call from another state on a number that no one really has!"

    Same as the others. A fellow who said he was with Visa Security Dept of ANZ claimed I had spent 800 buying an Apple product from Best Buys. As with the others, I don't bank with ANZ. He knew my first name.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
